Brokerages recommend high-dividend yield stocks
PETALING JAYA: As stock markets worldwide nosedive, some brokerages are advocating investing in high dividend yielding stocks. Aseambankers and TA Securities have come up with their recommendations, with Aseambankers ranking the Top 18 stocks with high dividend yield in a report yesterday. In Aseambankers’ top 10 are are Berjaya Sports Toto Bhd (BToto), Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd, Amway (M) Holdings Bhd, British American Tobacco (M) Bhd (BAT), Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd, JT International Bhd, Guinness Anchor Bhd, Gamuda Bhd, KFC Holdings (M) Bhd and DiGi.Com Bhd. | Tuesday's market rebound was shortlived as the KLCI fell to selling pressure in the afternoon after starting the morning higher.
| It said BToto had “a dividend policy of paying out at least 75% of earnings and a strong cash generating business that will ensure high dividend payouts going forward.” Bintulu Port, on the other hand, has “sustainable 50 sen dividend per share that provides a good yield at 8.4%”. The report said the strengthening ringgit would result in lower costs of sales, which would translate into higher earnings and cash flow for Amway. Amway, it said, also had a strong balance sheet. As for BAT, Aseambankers said although the company’s growth prospects remained dim in the foreseeable future, its consistent efficiency gains and dominant market-leading position in the highly income inelastic premium-priced segment should shield gross yields from any erosion in the near future. Brewers Carlsberg and Guinness, it added, had strong operating cash flows and healthy balance sheets that could potentially offset their higher marketing costs due to intense competition. Aseambankers also said Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, which falls within its Top 18, offered decent prospective dividends. “The concession holder can potentially raise operating margins and unlock further value from its assets,” it said in the report. TA Securities in its monthly strategy report for August said that risk-averse investors could look to high dividend yielding stocks for a higher return than bank interest rates. |
